The next “cumulative release” of Frontier, 2.2.4, will be generally available on Friday, 29 August 2008. This release includes all completed and tested ECs issued since the previous cumulative release (2.2.3, 2 May 2008). A key focus of the 2.2.4 release is to address outstanding issues with the new Order Entry User Interface, in advance of further leveraging this infrastructure for new applications.
The following will be made available as “add-on” products in September 2008. All of these products will require Frontier 2.2.4 for installation.
iDispatch Execution is the “execution” counterpart to the existing iDispatch “planning” tool for shipments. Browser-based, it provides an efficient interface for managing the loading and shipment of goods, and includes a “one-touch” trailer-close facility that automatically generates all necessary system transactions and paperwork required to ship the truck. iDispatch Execution will be available as an add-on product library for clients on Frontier 2.2.4. It will become part of the standard Frontier distribution as of release 3.0.
iService Entry is the new browser-based service-incident entry system. It serves as the “front-end” for the existing iService Schedule service planning tool, and provides a single, integrated interface for capturing and describing product and service issues, initiating replacement orders, and generating requests for field-service activities. iService Entry will be available as an add-on product library for clients on Frontier 2.2.4 in September 2008.
The SVG Drawing Engine is a functional replacement for the existing PCM Visualizer product. However, it also delivers significant new capabilities, including:
- Instant browser availability. SVG drawings show as “live” drawings during Order Entry configuration, in the same browser window; as options are selected, the user immediately sees the changes to the drawing.
- Interactive drawings. Drawings can be made interactive with the user: show/hide hidden elements, or display additional product detail at the click of mouse;
- Manual grid alignment functions for our window-industry vertical clients;
- Bi-directional communication. Complex geometric, dimensional calculations performed as part of the drawing process can be returned to the configuration code, potentially eliminating duplicate logic and calculations in the configurator.
The SVG Drawing Engine will be available as an add-on product library for clients on Frontier 2.2.4 in September 2008.
The new user interface for Order Processing is the follow-on from the Order Entry interface already introduced, and covers such tasks as Order Promising, Hold Maintenance, Allocation, Picking, and Shipping. It is complimentary to iDispatch Execution, and will be part of the Frontier 3.0 general release, scheduled for the first quarter of 2009.
