DEERFIELD, IL (April 11, 2007) – Friedman Corporation, the leading developer of ERP
(enterprise resource planning) software for make-to-order manufacturers in the building industry,
has announced the release of Frontier version 2.2, its main software offering.
“We’ve been dedicated to further enhancing the usability and functionality of Frontier and are
excited at what we – with the enthusiastic support and input of our users – have created with
version 2.2,” said Mark Thompson, Friedman Chief Operating Officer.
Frontier 2.2 features an updated user interface, and offers such additional functionality as
advanced order-promising, scrap and rework processing, planned work order regeneration, order
number expansion, and consolidated purchasing. Improvements also have been made to the
license distribution process, and iProducts, its Web-based interface, is now fully integrated across
all databases. The upgrade also includes the addition of business unit security.
In addition, seven modules, previously add-ons, have been rolled into the new version, including:
iDispatch, PCM Workbench, PCM Visualizer, Project Tracker, Service Manager, Configuration
Data Layer, and Advanced Manufacturing Execution (AME).
“The additional features combined with the incorporation of what were add-on modules to the
Frontier product create substantial benefits to customers in terms of increased operating
efficiencies and improved return on investment,” Thompson added.
He also noted that the code base of the program, RPG, has been completely migrated to RPG IV,
which will enable Friedman to take significant future advantage of the capabilities of the IBM
iSeries, its preferred platform.
Thompson said enhancements to Frontier were designed to “help our clients operate and
communicate more efficiently with their customers and each other.” Among the specific changes
he pointed to:
- Advanced order promising has been reworked to make it easier to use and an even better
fit for the industry sectors Friedman serves.
- A consolidated purchasing function has been added, which allows the purchaser to gather
together like configurations onto a single purchase order detail rather than create a
purchase order for every customer demand (even if they were for exactly the same
configuration.) Additionally, when the consolidated purchase order is received, the
system will automatically associate the received goods with the original demands.
- Sales, purchase, work order and invoice numbers have been expanded by two digits,
ensuring that clients with a large volume of transactions won’t roll those numbers over as
frequently.
Friedman’s Frontier ERP solution relies on the firm’s in-depth knowledge of the building
industry combined with integrated single database architecture and best-in-class configurator,
which provides a central point of control and integration for all data. This has helped to establish
the company as the niche leader in high-volume, multi-plant and complex make-to-order
manufacturing of items such as cabinets, windows, doors, fabricated metals, office furniture and
window fashions.
